Keto Onion Rings Recipe

Servings: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15–20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion (yellow or white), sliced into 1/4–1/2 inch thick rings

  • 1 cup almond flour

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

  • Coconut oil, avocado oil, or olive oil for frying

Optional for extra crispiness:

  • 2 tablespoons crushed pork rinds (adds crunch and extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions:

    • Peel the onion and slice into rings about 1/4–1/2 inch thick.

    • Separate the rings carefully and set aside.

  2. Set up the coating stations:

    • Bowl 1: Whisk eggs with heavy cream.

    • Bowl 2: Mix almond flour, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and crushed pork rinds if using.

  3. Coat the onion rings:

    • Dip each onion ring into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.

    • Press the ring into the almond flour mixture until well coated.

    • Shake off any excess flour mixture.

  4. Heat the oil:

    • In a skillet or frying pan, add about 1/4 inch of oil over medium heat.

    • Heat until hot but not smoking (around 350°F if using a thermometer).

  5. Fry the rings:

    • Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

    • Avoid overcrowding the pan, which can make them soggy.

  6. Drain:

    • Remove from the pan and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  7. Serve:

    • Enjoy hot with a keto-friendly dipping sauce like garlic aioli, ranch, or sugar-free ketchup.

Tips for Extra Crispiness

  • Make sure the onion rings are patted dry before coating.

  • Use a combination of almond flour and crushed pork rinds for a crunchier texture.

  • Fry in batches and maintain medium heat so the coating crisps without burning.
