Baked Apple Fritters

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar or sweetener (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

🍯 Optional light glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar (or sugar-free alternative)
  • 1–2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

🥣 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    Set to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare apples
    Dice apples into small chunks. Toss with a pinch of cinnamon if you like extra flavor.
  3. Make batter
    In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
    In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, applesauce, sweetener, and vanilla.
  4. Combine
    Stir wet and dry ingredients together. Fold in diced apples.
  5. Shape fritters
    Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the baking sheet and lightly flatten.
  6. Bake
    Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden and set.
  7. Glaze (optional)
    Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled fritters.

🍽️ Tips

  • Chop apples small so they cook evenly inside the batter
  • Granny Smith gives a nice tart balance; Fuji adds sweetness
  • Don’t overbake or they’ll dry out

🔁 Variations

  • Add raisins or chopped walnuts
  • Mix in a pinch of cardamom for a warm spice twist
  • Use oat flour for a slightly denser, wholesome texture
