Ingredients

  • 3 large potatoes (Russet or other starchy potatoes recommended)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable, canola, or olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Cold water for soaking

Preparation

1. Cut the potatoes

  • Peel the potatoes if you prefer a smoother texture
  • Cut into thin sticks, similar to French fries (about 0.5 cm thickness)

2. Soak

  • Place potato sticks in a bowl of cold water
  • Soak for 30 to 60 minutes
  • This removes excess starch and helps improve crispiness

3. Dry thoroughly

  • Drain the water completely
  • Pat the potatoes dry using a clean towel or paper towels
  • Make sure they are fully dry before seasoning

Seasoning

  • In a bowl, combine potato sticks with:
    • Oil
    • Salt
    • Black pepper
    • Paprika
    • Garlic powder if using
  • Mix well so all pieces are evenly coated

Air Frying Instructions

Preheat

  • Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) for 3 to 5 minutes

Cooking

  • Place potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer
  • Avoid overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary

Time and temperature

  • Cook at 180°C for 12 to 15 minutes
  • Shake or toss the basket halfway through cooking
  • Increase temperature to 200°C (392°F) for 3 to 5 minutes at the end for extra crispiness

  • Golden and crispy exterior
  • Soft and fluffy interior
