homemade pizza roll-ups
Ingredients (for about 12-15 roll-ups)
Dough:
-
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
½ tsp salt
-
½ cup milk (whole or 2% works best)
-
2 tbsp olive oil (or any neutral oil)
Or you can use store-bought pizza dough or crescent roll dough to save time.
Filling:
-
½ cup pizza sauce (homemade or store-bought)
-
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-
½ cup mini pepperoni slices (or chopped regular pepperoni)
-
Optional extras: sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, cooked sausage, olives, onions, or fresh basil
For brushing:
-
1 tbsp butter, melted
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
¼ tsp dried oregano
Instructions
1. Prepare the dough:
-
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
Gradually stir in milk and olive oil until a soft dough forms.
-
Knead lightly on a floured surface for 2–3 minutes until smooth.
-
Roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
2. Add the filling:
-
Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border on all sides.
-
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
-
Add pepperoni slices and any additional toppings you like.
3. Roll and slice:
-
Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
-
Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1–1.5 inch pieces.
-
Place the roll-ups cut side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
4. Add the garlic butter:
-
In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, and oregano.
-
Brush the tops of the roll-ups with the mixture for extra flavor.
5. Bake:
-
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
-
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool for 3–5 minutes before serving.
6. Serve:
-
Serve warm with extra pizza sauce or marinara for dipping.
Tips:
-
For extra crispiness, bake on a preheated pizza stone if you have one.
-
You can freeze unbaked roll-ups: slice them, freeze on a tray, then transfer to a bag. Bake straight from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
-
Experiment with different cheeses: cheddar, provolone, or a blend works beautifully.
