Vegan Burger Patties

  • 1 cup cooked lentils, mashed

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tbsp mustard

  • 1 tbsp flour (to bind)

Vegan Big Mac Sauce

  • ½ cup vegan mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 2 tbsp sweet pickle relish

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp vinegar

Mix everything in a bowl and refrigerate while preparing the burger.

Burger Assembly Ingredients

  • 2 vegan burger buns (plus 1 extra bottom bun cut in half for the middle layer)

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

  • 6–8 pickle slices

  • 2–4 slices vegan cheese (optional)

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (if buns are plain)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the Vegan Patties

  1. In a bowl combine:

    • mashed lentils

    • breadcrumbs

    • chopped onion

    • garlic

  2. Add:

    • soy sauce

    • smoked paprika

    • pepper

    • salt

    • ketchup

    • mustard

    • flour

  3. Mix until a firm mixture forms.

  4. Shape into 4 thin patties (Big Mac uses thin patties).

  5. Chill for 10 minutes to help them hold their shape.

2. Cook the Patties

  1. Heat 1–2 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and slightly crispy.

If using vegan cheese, place a slice on the patties during the last minute to melt.

3. Toast the Buns

  1. Slice buns.

  2. Lightly toast them in a pan or toaster until golden.

You need three layers per burger:

  • bottom bun

  • middle bun layer

  • top bun

4. Assemble the Vegan Big Mac

Follow the classic three-layer structure:

Bottom Layer

  1. Bottom bun

  2. Big Mac sauce

  3. Shredded lettuce

  4. First vegan patty

  5. Pickle slices

Middle Layer

  1. Middle bun piece

  2. More Big Mac sauce

  3. Lettuce

  4. Second patty

Top

  1. Top bun with sesame seeds

5. Serve

Press the burger gently so the layers hold together.

Serve with:

  • fries

  • potato wedges

  • vegan coleslaw

Tips for Authentic Flavor

  • Add finely diced onions like fast-food burgers.

  • Use very thin patties for a closer Big Mac texture.

  • Chill the sauce for 20 minutes before serving for better flavor.
