WW Mushroom & Swiss Burger Foil Packets

Time

  • Prep: 10 minutes
  • Cook: 20–25 minutes
  • Total: About 35 minutes

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 4 lean ground beef patties (90% lean or turkey/chicken for lower points)
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 4 slices reduced-fat Swiss cheese
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil or cooking spray
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

For serving (optional, WW-friendly):

  • Lettuce leaves or whole-wheat buns
  • Mustard or low-calorie ketchup

Instructions

1. Preheat

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) if baking.
  • Alternatively, these can be cooked on a grill.

2. Prepare foil packets

  • Tear 4 large sheets of aluminum foil.
  • Lightly spray with cooking spray or brush with olive oil.

3. Assemble packets

  • Place a beef patty in the center of each foil sheet.
  • Top with sliced mushrooms and onions.
  • Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top.

4. Seal the packets

  • Fold foil over the burgers and crimp edges to seal completely.

5. Cook

  • Oven method: Place packets on a baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes until patties are cooked through and mushrooms are tender.
  • Grill method: Place packets on medium heat and grill for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway.

6. Serve

  • Open foil packets carefully (steam will escape).
  • Serve directly in packets or transfer to plates.
  • Optional: wrap in lettuce leaves or low-calorie buns, and garnish with fresh herbs.

Tips

  • Use lean ground meat to reduce WW points.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or balsamic vinegar before sealing packets.
  • You can add bell peppers or zucchini for extra veggies.

Approximate WW Points (per serving, using lean beef and reduced-fat cheese)

  • 6–8 SmartPoints per burger (depending on brand and portion sizes)
