Instructions
Step 1: Press the Tofu
- Drain tofu.
- Wrap in a clean towel or paper towels.
- Press for 15–20 minutes to remove excess water.
This helps it get crispy.
Step 2: Cut into Nuggets
- Slice tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles.
- Keep pieces uniform for even cooking.
Step 3: Season the Tofu
Place tofu in a bowl and add:
- Soy sauce
- Optional olive oil
Toss gently to coat.
Let sit 5 minutes.
Step 4: Coat with Cornstarch Mix
In a separate bowl mix:
- Cornstarch
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Smoked paprika
- Salt
- Pepper
Add tofu pieces and toss until fully coated.
Shake off excess powder lightly.
Step 5: Air Fry First Cook
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly spray basket with oil.
- Arrange tofu in a single layer.
Cook:
- 12–15 minutes
Shake basket halfway through.
Tofu should be golden and crisp on edges.
Step 6: Make BBQ Sauce
Mix in a bowl:
- BBQ sauce
- Maple syrup (optional)
- Apple cider vinegar
- Chili powder (optional)
Stir until smooth.
Step 7: Coat the Nuggets
- Place air-fried tofu in a large bowl.
- Add BBQ sauce.
- Toss until evenly coated.
Step 8: Final Air Fry (Sticky Finish)
- Return coated tofu to air fryer.
