Ingredients

For the Cabbage Steaks

  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Burger Patties

  • 1½ lb (700 g) lean ground beef, chicken, or turkey
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup almond flour or breadcrumbs
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Optional Toppings

  • sliced cheese
  • avocado
  • sautéed mushrooms
  • caramelized onions
  • spicy mayo
  • mustard
  • sugar-free ketchup

Optional High-Protein Sauce

Mix together:

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cabbage Steaks

Preheat oven to:

  • 425°F (220°C)

Slice cabbage into:

  • 3/4 to 1-inch thick rounds

Place on baking sheet.

Brush both sides with olive oil.

Season with:

  • garlic powder
  • paprika
  • salt
  • pepper

2. Roast the Cabbage

Bake for:

  • 15 minutes

Flip carefully.

Bake another:

  • 10–15 minutes

until edges are browned and cabbage is tender.

For extra caramelization, broil:

  • 1–2 minutes

3. Make the Burger Patties

In a large bowl combine:

  • ground meat
  • egg
  • parmesan
  • almond flour or breadcrumbs
  • garlic
  • seasonings

Mix gently until combined.

Form into:

  • 4 large patties

Avoid overmixing to keep patties juicy.


4. Cook the Patties

Skillet Method

Heat skillet over medium-high heat.

Cook patties:

  • 4–6 minutes per side

depending on thickness.


Grill Method

Grill over medium heat:

  • about 5 minutes per side

until fully cooked.

Ground poultry should reach:

Ground beef is commonly cooked to:

5. Assemble

Place burger patties on top of roasted cabbage steaks.

Add desired toppings and sauce.
