Honey Butter Crispy Chicken

Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 500g chicken (boneless thighs or breast, cut into pieces)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk or buttermilk
  • Oil for frying

For the honey butter sauce:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
  • Pinch of chili flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Prep the coating
    In one bowl, whisk egg and milk.
    In another, mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings.
  2. Coat the chicken
    Dip chicken into the wet mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture.
    For extra crispiness, repeat once more.
  3. Fry until crispy
    Heat oil (medium-high). Fry chicken in batches for 5–7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
    Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the sauce
    In a pan, melt butter over low heat. Add garlic and cook briefly.
    Stir in honey, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Simmer 1–2 minutes until slightly thick.
  5. Toss & serve
    Add crispy chicken to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

  • With steamed rice or fries
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions
  • Add a side of coleslaw for contrast

  • Double-frying the chicken (fry once, rest, then fry again) makes it extra crispy.
  • Use thighs for juicier results.
  • Adjust honey and soy sauce to balance sweetness and saltiness to your taste.
