Loaded Mashed Potato Bowl

Serves 4 (large bowls)


PART 1: Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2½ lbs Yukon Gold or russet potatoes

  • 4 tbsp butter (or vegan butter)

  • ½–¾ cup warm milk (dairy or unsweetened plant milk)

  • ½ cup sour cream (or vegan sour cream)

  • 1 tsp salt (plus more to taste)

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Potatoes

  1. Peel (optional) and cut potatoes into even chunks.

  2. Place in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch.

  3. Add a generous pinch of salt.

  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer.

  5. Cook 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.

Do not overcook or they’ll become watery.


Step 2: Mash

  1. Drain well and let steam dry 2–3 minutes.

  2. Mash using a potato masher or ricer.

  3. Stir in butter first (this coats starch and improves texture).

  4. Add warm milk gradually until creamy.

  5. Mix in sour cream, salt, pepper, and garlic.

Taste and adjust seasoning.

Choose 3–5 for the ultimate bowl.
