Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions
Ingredients
For the beef
- 1 lb flank steak (or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp oil
For the stir-fry
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
For the sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional but adds depth)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth (or water)
- 1 tsp cornstarch (to thicken)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
- Marinate the beef
Toss sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and oil. Let sit for 10–15 minutes. - Sear the beef
Heat a wok or skillet until very hot. Add oil, then cook beef in a single layer for about 1–2 minutes per side. Remove and set aside. - Cook veggies
In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed. Stir-fry onions, peppers, garlic, and ginger for 2–3 minutes—keep them slightly crisp. - Make the sauce
Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl. Pour into the pan and let it simmer. - Combine
Return beef to the pan. Toss everything together until coated and the sauce thickens (about 1–2 minutes). - Serve sizzling
Drizzle with sesame oil and serve hot over rice.
🔥 Tips for that “sizzling” restaurant feel
- Use a cast iron skillet or super-hot wok
- Don’t overcrowd the pan (cook beef in batches if needed)
