Ingredients

For the beef

  • 1 lb flank steak (or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp oil

For the stir-fry

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

For the sauce

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional but adds depth)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (to thicken)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef
Toss sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and oil. Let sit for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Sear the beef
Heat a wok or skillet until very hot. Add oil, then cook beef in a single layer for about 1–2 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook veggies
In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed. Stir-fry onions, peppers, garlic, and ginger for 2–3 minutes—keep them slightly crisp.
  4. Make the sauce
Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl. Pour into the pan and let it simmer.
  5. Combine
Return beef to the pan. Toss everything together until coated and the sauce thickens (about 1–2 minutes).
  6. Serve sizzling
Drizzle with sesame oil and serve hot over rice.

🔥 Tips for that “sizzling” restaurant feel

  • Use a cast iron skillet or super-hot wok
