Layered Sweet Potato Gratin

🛒 Ingredients

  • 3–4 large sweet potatoes (peeled, thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or mozzarella)
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
  • Salt & black pepper (to taste)
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional, adds warmth)

🔪 Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

Set oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly butter a baking dish.


2. Make the Cream Mixture

In a bowl, mix:

  • Heavy cream
  • Milk
  • Garlic
  • Thyme
  • Salt, pepper, and nutmeg

3. Layer the Gratin

  • Arrange a layer of sweet potato slices in the dish
  • Pour a bit of cream mixture over
  • Sprinkle some shredded cheese
  • Repeat layers until everything is used

Finish with remaining cheese and parmesan on top.


4. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes
  • Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly

5. Rest & Serve

Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving so it sets nicely.
