Layered Sweet Potato Gratin
🛒 Ingredients
- 3–4 large sweet potatoes (peeled, thinly sliced)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup milk
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or mozzarella)
- ¼ cup grated parmesan
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
- Salt & black pepper (to taste)
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional, adds warmth)
🔪 Instructions
1. Preheat Oven
Set oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly butter a baking dish.
2. Make the Cream Mixture
In a bowl, mix:
- Heavy cream
- Milk
- Garlic
- Thyme
- Salt, pepper, and nutmeg
3. Layer the Gratin
- Arrange a layer of sweet potato slices in the dish
- Pour a bit of cream mixture over
- Sprinkle some shredded cheese
- Repeat layers until everything is used
Finish with remaining cheese and parmesan on top.
4. Bake
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes
- Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly
5. Rest & Serve
Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving so it sets nicely.
