Air Fryer Bread in a Bag Recipe
A fun, easy homemade bread recipe where the dough is mixed right inside a bag — no stand mixer needed.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2¼ tsp) instant yeast
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water (about 43°C / 110°F)
- 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
Optional:
- Garlic powder
- Italian herbs
- Cheese
- Sesame seeds
Equipment
- Large zip-top bag
- Mixing bowl
- Air fryer
- Small cake pan or air fryer-safe pan
Instructions
1. Mix Dry Ingredients
Add to the zip-top bag:
- 1 cup flour
- Yeast
- Sugar
- Salt
Seal and shake well.
2. Add Wet Ingredients
Pour into the bag:
- Warm water
- Olive oil
Seal the bag and squeeze/mix until combined.
3. Add Remaining Flour
Gradually add the remaining flour:
- About ½ cup at a time
Seal and knead the dough inside the bag until:
- Soft
- Slightly sticky
- Smooth
If too sticky:
- Add 1 tbsp flour at a time
4. First Rise
Leave the dough in the bag or transfer to a bowl.
Let rise for:
- 45–60 minutes
- Until doubled in size
Place in a warm spot.
5. Shape the Bread
- Punch down the dough gently.
- Shape into a round loaf or rolls.
- Place into a greased air fryer-safe pan.
Optional:
- Brush top with oil or butter
- Add herbs or sesame seeds
6. Second Rise
Let the dough rest:
- 20–30 minutes
It should puff up slightly.
7. Air Fry
Preheat air fryer to:
- 160°C / 320°F for 3 minutes
Cook bread at:
- 160°C / 320°F for 15–20 minutes
Check after 12 minutes.
Bread is done when:
- Top is golden brown
- Bottom sounds hollow when tapped
If browning too quickly:
- Loosely cover with foil
8. Cool & Serve
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Brush with melted butter for a softer crust
