Ingredients

For the Beef Stew

  • 500 g (1 lb) beef stew meat, cut into chunks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1½ cups beef broth

Optional Add-Ins

  • Mushrooms
  • Celery
  • Peas
  • Rosemary
  • Bay leaf
  • Red wine splash

Instructions

1. Season the Beef

Pat the beef dry with paper towels.

Place in a bowl and toss with:

  • flour
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • paprika

The flour helps create a rich, thick stew gravy.

2. Brown the Beef

Preheat the air fryer to 200°C / 400°F for 3–5 minutes.

Lightly drizzle the beef with olive oil.

Place the beef pieces into the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Cook at 200°C / 400°F for 6–8 minutes, shaking halfway through, until browned on the edges.

This step builds deep savory flavor.

3. Prepare the Stew Mixture

In a heat-safe baking dish or air fryer-safe casserole dish, combine:

  • browned beef
  • onions
  • garlic
  • potatoes
  • carrots
  • tomato paste
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • thyme

Pour in the beef broth and stir gently.

The liquid should mostly cover the ingredients.

4. Air Fry the Stew

Cover the dish loosely with foil.

Place into the air fryer basket.

Cook at 160°C / 320°F for 35–45 minutes, stirring halfway through cooking.

The stew is ready when:

  • the beef is tender
  • potatoes are soft
  • carrots are cooked through
  • gravy has thickened slightly

If needed, add a little extra broth during cooking.

Texture & Flavor

This stew is:

  • rich and hearty
